My sparse Substack is where I document the trials and tributations of making the dream video game based on brain injury. Well I dont think "game developement" was thing for non-professionals when I was stuck in Cedar Sinia, rebuilding my life, living with epilepsy and sketching a handheld devices in my notebook. I was non-verbal and unable to walk. The idea was to create an electronic "Speak and Spell" that might help others.
Some posts look backward, revisiting the moments surrounding my brain injury and the long, sometimes strange process of recovery. Others are about life now: memory, seizures, work, family, technology, and the everyday challenges that come with a brain that doesn't always behave predictably.
There is also another story developing alongside it.
I'm building a video game and life simulator inspired by my experiences with epilepsy. Rather than simply explaining what living with seizures can be like, I want players to experience some of the uncertainty themselves — remembering medication, managing sleep and food, dealing with memory lapses, making everyday decisions, and understanding how quickly ordinary routines can become complicated.
The Substack is part memoir, part development journal, and part experiment. It's a place to preserve memories, work through ideas, document the creation of the game, and hopefully turn some difficult experiences into something useful.
This isn't a story about epilepsy alone. It's about rebuilding, adapting, creating, and figuring out what comes next.
